Hi - I'm interested in signing up for a machine which will get used predominantly for webserving using PHP and Python.
My experience of sysadmin has been with FreeBSD. I have zero experience of any other *nix.
Could I have suggestions as to which Unix available on UnixShell would be best please ?
Thanks
Richard.

Gentoo with it's "portage" system is the most like FreeBSD by far.
NetBSD I know and freebsd I think run under Xen, any way to use them?

its probably better for you just to get a freebsd vps/vds.

I would prefer to but Unixshell don't offer FreeBSD and in fact finding 'virtualised' FreeBSD's is a bit tricky. There are some - just not much choice. I would much prefer to use FreeBSD - wouldn't everyone ? ;)

I would love to see FreeBSD available here at Unixshell.
I don't know my Linux well enough to know which available selection is best, but I can say this is certain: stay away from the CentOS, I'm hating it.
...and I wouldn't trust the RPMs or yum installer at all. It makes me miss my pkgadd

I suggest Slackware (minimal) and pkgsrc packages for added BSD flavour.
pkgsrc.org (http://pkgsrc.org/)
Slackware Linux with pkgsrc Packages (http://users.piuha.net/martti/comp/slackware/slackware.html)
