View Full Version : local debian repository
If a local debian package repository was set up, wouldn't that lower the amount of outgoing traffic since everyone (who uses debian) would just be hitting the local server?

Well, we maintain 9 distributions and are planning on adding a few more so i'd say it only be fair if we maintain a local mirror for one we should for all of them. That would be a lot of extra work to maintain... and the bandwidth would still be counted towards the VM. Also, our outbound traffic is much higher than our inbound and downloading the deb's is all inbound so it's not a problem at all from our end.
Well since everyone should be using Debian anyways, there's really no reason for a local mirror of every other distribution. *ducks*
Good points.. I just thought that having local repositories would lighten some load and save some people bandwidth.
Thanks for the reply
