View Full Version : Dedicated servers w/ Xen?

Hi,
I saw a mailing earlier this month about dedicated servers. Would it be possible to get a dedicated server with tools allowing the purchaser to define and deploy Xen partitions? Perhaps along the same resource allocations as the breakdown advertised by UnixShell.
We're not so much as looking to resell Xen partitions as be able to manage large numbers of Xen virtual servers for our clients. As such, each virtual server would have the same specs. We're mainly interested in Xen's ability to isolate each client's servers.
Thanks,

There is no reason you can't install Xen on a dedicated server, no need for Teknic if for the purpose you need (since you have root on the host).

While that is true, the last thing we want to do is to reinvent the wheel and recreate a xen management software, though that might be what we have to do.
We've only ordered two Xen partitions from you. Both times, it took a bit of time before we could start setting up, though I understand from the second time, you had a rush of orders. We're looking at rolling out a product line 3 - 6 months down the road with a sales target first year of 100 installations the first year. While we could continue doing business with the current setup, based on my past experience with you guys, I have doubts about adding in this number of Xen partitions within 24 hours reliably. Otherwise, I have been quite satisfied with your service.
Maybe we can work out a deal where we can pay a premium to have priority installs (such as a setup fee), or pay the price of a dedicated server where all the Xen partitions on there are reserved for us, or some way we can access the "Xen Partitions On Hand" figure and where our install requests are in the queue.
Please let me know, as that will affect how we will introduce this product line. I'll talk with the developers about accommodating for install time.

We solved the setup time problem now. Most are completed in a few hours. Before we could not afford to purchase many of our host nodes as they are quite expensive, but at this time we have the capital to have a few racked and ready to go at all times.

That's great to hear!
Do you guys have a business development coordinator of some sort? When it comes closer to our launch, I'd like to talk with someone in that role.
Thanks

I can assign someone to help you if you e-mail sales. It may be myself or not, we'll have to see what your needs are.
As some insight into Teknic 2.0 which will be released very shortly, the entire interface is skinnable along with an API (documented in the wiki).

Enomalism isn't yet available for download, but certainly looks very sharp.

I looked at it ... it's probably what I'm looking for as long as I can very quickly have it install the appropriate images.
Their website looks like it was put together in a hurry.
