I know this is a bit of a long shot, but any thoughts about opening a data centre in Europe? Current European VPN offerings are insanely expensive and under-powered, so like many other people I choose to use a US service. Network speed is fine most of the time, but I'm sure it would be much better if my server was in the UK. And I feel a bit silly about all my email crossing the Atlantic twice ;-)

This an option... but is definitely way off. First we'd like to open up a west coast datacenter that also allows IRC... that doesn't help you much at all.

The reason the US-based services are so much less expensive is because things are less expensive over here :) I remember a while back I had collo at Level (3) in US and in London.. same company, but the London colo was 2-3 times the price. Servers were also a problem as they were more expensive through Dell UK and shipping from the US was another cost and then getting through customs. In short, it's an option... but it'd take some magic to offer it at the same price point as we have now, especially for bandwidth.

That would be a good idea, for example for globally distributed nameservers. I'd say some of us don't use 5 Gb per month, let alone 32...

Cast one vote for an europe based offering as well.

But you are ofcourse correct about the price difference. Though I must say that London is expensive even over that. There are some really good colo places with very good network connections in Netherlands, for example.

Well, it depends. Personally, I would not say that European VPS services are overpriced or underpowered. If we are talking about linux VPS in particular, I think it is possible to find some attractive deals there. Nothing matches Tektonic support, of course. :)

I wouldn't complain if you did this either :)
