Question for you Matt,

I noticed that if I download a large file from my VM, I get around 145KB/s. (which I guess is about a 1Mb connection?)

If I download my snapshot from Teknic, I get around 400KB/s, and I am guessing that is about a 3Mb/s connection.

Here's my question, is that rate limited? Or, is it caused by my VM?

If it's my VM, then if I upgrade to the 128 plan, will it go faster?

For the most part, I dont really care, having 1Mb/s connection is ok for what I do, but if I start getting more of my own clients on my service, then that bandwidth will become an issue eventually. Especially if they all start downloading database backups at the same time.

For some reason I was thinking our outbound connections were 10Mb/s. Can you elaborate on all this?

Thanks.

It should be able to pull / push very fast... I do limit each VPS to 20mbit/s outbound in event it's hacked and launches a DoS, but getting that 20
mbit/s should be easily attained.

Try a "wget ftp://ftp.aol.com/aol/setup325.exe" from your VM, you should easily get 20-30mbit/s.

Ah, that's interesting. I got about 8Mb/s on that. Which is perfect.

That being inbound, is great. But, then I proceeded to download that file to my pc, and I got roughly 1Mb/s. I would consider that it might be my internet connection, or even my pc, but what confuses me is that I can download right from Teknic at about 3Mb/s.

I know these things can vary because it's all shared, the server, the bandwitdh and such, but it seems to be pretty consistent.

Plus, I know after that setup325.exe download, my disk writes are quick because the speed was quite fast. Since writes are slower than reads, I am guessing it's not my VM being slow on my downloads.

Any thoughts?
