If you check your daemon.log and syslog, you may notice tens of thousands of messages similiar to:
* Id "#" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
This irritates me, as it adds megs to the syslog, making it difficult to read/use. Its definitely caused by Xen. I think Xen kills tty's >1 since they are not very useful on vps's. To get rid of the messages, you must tell init not to spawn tty's other than tty1.
In /etc/inittab comment out these lines.
2:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty2
3:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty3
4:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty4
5:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty5
6:23:respawn:/sbin/getty 38400 tty6
Reboot. Be sure to leave the line starting with 1, thats your console!
