A few months ago, I asked Matt if he planned to expand his Xen networks to other data centers - namely, Texas - for those of us on the westcoast. At the time, he was busy with adding new servers to meet the huge demand. Now many servers later, I wonder if more people would be interested in VPS in another data center.

I'm still curious too :)

The problem i've been having is finding a place that is as good at GNAX for anywhere near as comparable of a price. Due to GNAX's low price for colocation I can offer low prices through unixshell#. The service is also very good there, the only problem I have is IRC (which I don't personally consider a problem -- hardly any DoS attacks against us, just some lost sales). I have looked at some of the big players such as The Planet, HE, etc and their colocation rates and configurations are just not to my liking.

If anyone has any input for west/central U.S. datacenters i'm open to suggestion.

Have you looked at colo4dallas.com?

I have been looking for a colo provider and they have one of the best setups that I have seen as far as price/service.

Let me know what you think.

Not too much info on different configs on their site, definitely looks like an option though. I'll have to contact their sales department.

What about LayeredTech?

I just talked to LayeredTech and they do not allow IRC. If I were to open up servers somewhere else besides GNAX the datacenter must allow IRC.

Allowing IRC *AND* price competitive... that's almost impossible on the westcoast. Personally, I wouldn't want to share a server with anyone doing IRC anyway. Just too many things that could go wrong.

Then what would be the motivation for a West/central location? Ping times only? I think GNAX ping times are pretty low, although ICMP is prioritized lower than other useful protocols so pings might not look the absolute best. My whole thing with GNAX is the price is right, the performance is excellent, are very flexible with our needs, and we've had 0 un-planned network outages in 1 1/2 years with them.

Geographic diversity.

For geographical diversity - how about a UK location? We use a UK datacenter which looks like it allows IRC (their TOS/AUP makes no mention of it being banned) which offers Co-location and dedicated servers. A "breadrack" allowing 20 towers OR a 22U Half/47U full lockable cabinets: all 3 solutions come with 32 IPs, 8amp power and 1Mbps bandwidth default at approximately $525 USD per month.

Dedicated servers - Dual Opteron with 1x120Gb HD, 1,200Gb bandwidth and 1Gb RAM is $402 USD pm. For a Dual Opteron with 2x120Gb HD, 4Gb RAM, 21 IPs, 100Mbps uplink it's approximately $782 pm - but they do do custom solutions. If you are interested in them, please let me know and I'll pass on their details to you (don't want to advertise them here as technically they could be classed as a sort of competitor).

I'm from England and would definitely welcome a UK Xen server. The current VPS systems on offer over here don't match the service I get from unixshell; the only problem is the response time (VOIP) which could be improved.

And it seems daft that all my work has to hop over the Atlantic twice for no reason :-)

I would welcome a UK/Europe based XEN system. As someone who provides services to both US and UK based folks, it is always nice to have a server in the region.

Also I like being able to push data between region in case anything happens.

It would be nice to be able to choose between US-based plans and Europe-based (e.g. UK) plans.

I would really like a Europe based XEN system.
