Hello I’m currently looking to move to either Fedora or CentOS. I had a question about which distro and release is the most stable and has the least overhead on resources. I’m currently using Ubuntu and love it but, I have a need for cpanel because my partner has very little Linux experience. I tried to install a trial of cPanel on a developmental Ubuntu box at home but it wanted to use RPM packages, not APT. Is there a way to get cPanel on Ubuntu or do I have to make the change to Fedora or CentOS?

CPanel is very finnicky (anal) about which distributions it will run on. You can see the list on http://www.cpanel.net/. The choice is really between Fedora and Centos as you mentioned. I will stay far away from Fedora for any server use. It is mostly geared towards a desktop user and thus installs a ton of extra packages that you won't ever need. CentOs is a free version of RedHat enterprise server. It is created with the goal of being small and stable. It has a lot less overhead, and I will personally always go with CentOs for any server environment (where I cannot use Debian - my favourite).

The 96 should be fine if you tune Apache/MySQL to use less memory by default. Also, turn off any un-needed services such as InterChange, Chat Server, Mailman, etc.
