I bet you guys are tired of the ssh questions... sorry for the newb questions. And BTW, you cant search on the forum for 'ssh', it returns 0 results, and I know there are several posts with 'ssh' in them. So, I probably could have found some of these answers if I could search on that.

anyway, I can login fine using the port 7322 and then into my vm console. My question is, why cant I login to port 22 using a normal user account? It always says access denied. (for root or users)

I checked my sshd on the vm and it's running. Strange thing is, I did a netstat -l and it says it's using TCP6. I tried changing the default port, to like 22222 or something, and same issue. I tried a couple different distros and all the same.

It works if I login to the console on port 7322 normally, then run an ssh session to myself on port 22222. So I know ssh is working, just not remotely.

Do you guys block all ssh unless it's going into port 7322? Or is this something that is the way it is because of Xen? Just curious.

Also, dumb question on the terminal. On all my other servers (not VPS) I can get into ssh and see a full screen, even when text editing in vi. But in this, I only get this tiny screen and it makes it tough to do any real editing work. (which is why I am trying the straight access to ssh) It does this on the distros I have tried, whether I use linux or windows clients. Is this something that can be changed on the vm ssh config or is it a limitation on the console login you provide? (or a client thing?)

Thanks so much for your time and advice.

Greg

Port 22 is fine, make sure you read the integrated help regaarding passwords. 7322 port is console access and is limited to standard Linux console access.
