Hello,

I would like to find out how long it takes Unixshell to provision a new account from the time payment information is submited via the order-entry form?

What I would like to do is use a script to automatically signup for unixshell xen accounts when my customers purchase products from my website. I would like my customers to be able to access their xen virtual servers at unixshell immidiately after placing their orders with me.

Specifically, is the process of provisioning unixshell accounts automated or manually carried out by unixshell admins? Unixshell will work for me only if the provisioning process is automated and expedient.

Thanks in advance!

Never mind. I just noticed another thread in this forum pertaining to this topic :)

I'm going to revise my question here. Rather than asking about setup times, I'd like to ask up upgrade times. How long would it take me to upgrade the footprint of my Xen virtual machine. For example, if I have an existing account and I want to upgrade from "the 32" plan to "the 192" plan, how long will that take? Is an upgrade something that I can do from the control panel (or with a script)? And if so, is the upgrade an automatic process that takes just a few minutes, or do I need to wait for an admin to do that?

Thanks Again

Unixshell would have to do the upgrade, as you cannot access the files/programs necessary to change the settings yourself.

I think it's theoretically possible to upgrade the memory without a reboot of your box. In practice, they will need to reboot your vps, see the next section.

Upgrading the disk space requires enlarging the partition in LVM. I don't know if it will ever be possible to change this without shutting down the vps. In any case, I doubt it'd take more than 4-5 minutes to grow the partition.

There is also the matter of a config file that might need to be updated(depends on how teknic works) to boost your cpu priority level.

Turnaround is what you're really interested in. If there is actually room and available ram to upgrade your vps, I would expect it to be done in 2-6 hours. I've not reqested it yet myself, so I'm just guessing.

I just upgraded from The 96 to The 192. I submitted my request at 1:00 am Saturday morning and the upgrade was completed (with a reboot by support) at 6:00 pm. These times are U.S. EDT. Of course, this was in the middle of the night on a weekend, so a weekday request might be more likely to be quicker. Just my experience.
